RACE REPORT |
||
Round 4 at Whilton Mill would have almost perfect karting conditions for the day, and with a few minor amendments to the kerbs the lap times tumbled. With a clash of dates we were missing the Saxon Bilands with Red Mist being their sole representative to keep the 11 Rotax's honest. Box Tech were looking to make it three wins on the trot, but the other teams were equally keen to steal the glory and as qualifying got underway the markers were being laid down. Box Tech headed the grid from Maintenance with KKC in third and Red Mist fourth. A clean start allowed Box Tech to lead the field into turn one, with KKC making a great pass on Maintenance to take second. Red Mist would run wide in the final corner to allow Red Max to slip into fourth on the opening lap. Maintenance having lost second started to press KKC for position and after 5 laps had managed to retake the position. The battle had begun between these two that would allow Box Tech to stretch a very small advantage. KKC in their quest to keep in touch with Maintenance came to lap TT Sport entering the Boot, unfortunately misreading the situation they went for a gap that disappeared. KKC's kart was then launched by both the kerb & the rear wheel of TT Sport, with the kart wheel hitting James's arm. This time the kart escaped any major damage but James would not be able to continue and after an examination by the paramedic, a trip to the local A&E confirmed a break. After 45mins Box Tech's lead was 10.47 seconds from Maintenance with KKC 13.97 further back. Appliance were fourth after taking the position from Red Max who for the second race running were having problems that had pushed them down to last, although they would mount a come back today. After the first round of stops had been competed. The lead stayed the same but KKC & Maintenance had swapped position. KKC's kart was showing the signs of the earlier accident but a repair would end their race so the would battle with a broken seat & hope that it would survive a remaining 3 hours. At the two hour mark KKC had reduced Box Tech's lead to just 19.14 seconds. Red Mist had moved through the field into third with Boxed In fourth. Red Max had moved from last to 9th and were setting so quick lap times. Le Mavericks newly rebuilt engine was starting to get into its stride and they too were posting to fast times having moved from 11th to 6th. By the three-hour mark KKC had caught & passed Box Tech to lead by 20.44 seconds. Red Mist held station in third as did Boxed In 4th. Le Maverick had moved up to 5th & Red Max were now in 6th. The positions were now set barring any major problems & KKC were able to nurse their kart to the finish to claim a well-deserved first win. It hadn't been problem free but they had made it to win by a comfortable 2 laps, from Box Tech with Red Mist in the Biland taking the final podium position. We now have a seven week break before the 5th Round at Daytona Milton Keynes. There will be testing on Tuesday 29th July 11am - 6pm. Please email me info@openendurancechampionship.co.uk to confirm your attendance for both the race & testing. |
